My PhD deals with studying gene expression in bacterial populations in response to "life style" and stimulus. I use the arabinose responsive p-BAD promoter to study promoter activity in response to arabinose and housekeeping genes expression in biofilm to determine gene expression profile in both planktonic and biofilm cells. Using techniques like flow cytometry, microscopy and gene expression profiling, I'm probing into genetic determinants of phenotypic heterogeneity in these isogenous bacterial populations.
