I study proteins that can disrupt the cell membranes such as pore-forming toxins and antimicrobial peptides. I am studying how an alpha-pore-forming toxin (Cytolysin A) activity is inhibited by oxidized cholesterol in mammalian cell membranes. I am also interested in how antimicrobial peptides interact with the outer membrane of gram-negative bacteria. I use a variety of methods to understand these protein-membrane interactions such as single-molecule imaging, super-resolution microscopy, transmission electron microscopy.
